Drinking absinthe
In the matter of drinking absinthe, there is not a specific way to do it, because you can do whatever you want with it, even taking it straight, although this is not recommended if you don’t want to get sick of absinthe in your first try. That would be because of its bitter taste, that believe me won’t let you savor another drink of absinthe. but still there is the traditional way on which it is taken and the recipes commonly used by most of the people. Some of them prefer the absinthe neat, over ice with a sugar cube, and many others prefer cocktail recipes for their evenings, it’s a matter of taste.
To serve absinthe there are many ways, the one that was said before, is prepared pouring ice water over a cube of sugar resting above an absinthe spoon. The melted sugar must fall off the spoon into a glass filled with the absinthe liquor, and when it starts to combine with the absinthe liquor, the liquid starts turning into a cloudy opalescent color, this is normally named the Locuhe, or process of louching, that occurs because the oils contained in the absinthe don’t mix with water.

There are some specifications that you must know to make this kind of beverages, not necessary, but it is a guide that you can follow while you become an expert with absinthe. One of the tips you must know and follow is that you must use five parts of water for each part of absinthe, that way the beverage will be ok for drinking. After the whole process of the sugar cube and the icy water covering the sugar and melting it into the glass, the drink will start decreasing its level of bitterness caused by the flavor of the wormwood that most of the absinthes have. But this are just standard measures, you may twist this recipe the way you want, starting from the parts of water or the parts of absinthe, depending on the level of bitterness you want in your drink, some modern absinthes already come with a level of sugar, so they wont need a sugar cube to sweeten the drink.
There is also another very famous method to prepare absinthe, it is well known in the Czech Republic that is reflected in the name of the method, there is only a slight variation that of course changes all the way the drink, starting from the flavor all the way to the presentation. First, you must follow the same procedure as in the traditional method until the part where you position the sugar cube above the spoon. After that you must pour the absinthe over the sugar cube into the glass, then set the sugar cube on fire until it is completely melted, then pour the caramel into the glass, after that pour the icy water in the glass, and voilá, you have another way of drinking Absinthe.
There is a traditionally way of drinking Absinth in Europe. First get a cube of sugar and place it on a spoon and suspended over a tall glass filled with a shot of the green liquor. Then ice-cold water is dripped over the sugar and allowed to fall in beads into the drink. Each drip turns to a fresh snow-packed white. Sugar mask bitterness, while the method was attractive in itself, the drink’s change in color, drip by drip, resembles alchemy.
